Book Review ~ "John Dreamer" by Elise Celine

John DreamerJohn Dreamer by Elise Celine
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Source: Received to Review
Genre: Teen Fiction

Book Description: Andy wasn’t usually sure about much, but she was absolutely certain this was the weirdest day of her life as she stood stranded in the middle of a great white room with six strangers. Well, they were mostly strangers. She could have sworn she’d seen the guy with the green eyes before, and maybe that was why he kept staring at her.

When a man calling himself the Guardian appeared and said they had come to make their deepest dreams come true, they embark on an adventure none of them ever imagined, and the consequences of their actions would change them forever.

My thoughts: Andy finds herself alone in a great white room. She notices seven chairs, one has her name on it. One by one, newcomers are added until there are seven teens in the room, wondering why they are there.

Andy feels a connection to one boy named John. She feels as if she somehow knows him, but doesn't want to let down her guard to find out why. The rest of the group is eclectic. Each one is unique and they all don't hit it off from the start.

Now the guardian is added. He is a character and very cryptic. He doesn't answer questions directly, he leaves the teens with more questions. He basically tells them that they have to work together to help out with each other's dreams. Just as they came, one by one, the teens abruptly leave at the conclusion of each dream/test.

I found this book to be very interesting. The teens are all faced with a trial that deals with them individually. Each dream is a pivotal point that can help them achieve goals or bring them down in their life. As each teen faces their fears, the reader learns more about them and the reasons why they need help. There are many underlying psychological lessons in the book.  The book ends as abruptly as it began, but the kids leave with tools to help them in life.

  1. Could you imagine being put in a room with seven strangers and having to work together? I can't. This make the book seem even more interesting to me. Great review. Thanks for sharing :)
