Novella Review ~ "Silver Cascade Secrets" by Rachelle J. Christensen

Silver Cascade Secrets by Rachelle J. Christensen
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars
Source: Received to Review
Genre: Romantic Suspense

Book Description: In this romantic suspense novella, SILVER CASCADE SECRETS, by Rachelle J. Christensen, Jillian is the master landscaper at a beautiful park. Meeting Travis there soon after breaking up with her boyfriend, Jillian is wary at first. Travis seems like a great guy, but Jillian had fallen for great guys before. When she learns that his brother, Craig, was murdered six months before, her heart goes out to Travis. True to her curious nature, she starts asking questions and learns about Craig’s close connection with the park. But finding the answers puts Jillian’s life in danger, and she must decide who she really trusts.

My thoughts; This is a short and sweet novella.

Jillian is a care taker of the Silver Cascade's Park. She loves her job. She is drawn to a man playing with a girl in the Autumn leaves. He is kind and his love for the girl is evident in his actions. She is puzzled when a woman picks up the girl, leaving the man at the park. Her questions are quickly answered when she helps him locate his keys that he lost in the leaves.

The girl is his niece and he is trying to help out his widowed sister. His brother-in-law was murdered and together they puzzle out clues to solve the crime.

The events happen in a short period of time. I would have liked this story to be longer. The characters had a lot of potential and I would have liked to know more of their story. For the format of the story, this was great and it hit my need for a quick romance story. This book is perfect for the times when you don't have a lot of time and would like to escape into a fun read.

Book Review ~ "Painting Rain" by Annette K Larsen

Painting Rain by Annette K. Larsen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Source: Received eBook to Review
Genre: Clean Fiction

Book Description:  How do you heal your heart after tragedy leaves you broken? When the person you loved didn’t deserve it and they can’t earn your forgiveness because they’re already dead? How do you move on, and heal, and love?

If you’re Princess Lorraina, you paint.

A year ago Lorraina watched Tobias die, and she still doesn't know how she's supposed to heal—or forgive. How can she when she’s still running away? In an attempt to reinvent herself, she steps outside her comfortable life as princess and seeks the tutelage of a master painter—a man who is not at all impressed by her pedigree, and demands not just talent, but emotional honesty.

Struggling to learn what’s being taught, she finds herself drawn to someone who not only knows her secrets, but who she once considered far below her notice. Now she is compelled to seek him out despite knowing their relationship would be forbidden if discovered. Staying away from him doesn’t seem possible when discovering him may be the key to healing her heart and rediscovering herself.

My thoughts; Hard life lessons are often learned after trial. Princess Lorraina is not a stranger to trial. The man she loved was killed before her eyes after he betrayed her. She spent her life separating herself from her sisters and was friendless.

This is book four in a series about Princess sisters. Each of them can be read as a stand alone, but this story was introduced in Missing Lily. It is a easier to follow along if you know what has happened before.

I have read all four of the books and highly recommend them. Each of the sisters have their unique story and personality. Romance is part of this book but I feel it was really about the growth of Lorraina. She comes to know herself and her priorities. Her artwork is a way for her to express herself and let go of her past.

I loved the way she was able to loose herself in painting. She also was taught about the process of creating art, it added a depth to my knowledge and perception as a reader. It was fascinating.

This book contained a little bit of violence and a forbidden love with kissing.

The Tour Grand Finale for
Her Summer Crush
By Linda Hope Lee

We hope you enjoyed the reviews and excerpts shared during the tour! If you missed any of them, go back and check them out now...

Launch - Introduction to Her Summer Crush

After I finished Eva’s Deadline, I kept thinking about Luci and Cody. Did she get over her crush? Did Cody get to follow his dream? What happened to these two people? Soon I was playing the “what if?” game and writing Her Summer Crush

Bookworm Lisa - Excerpt

“CODY JARVIS! What’s he doing here?” Luci Monroe stared at the man who’d just stepped out the back door of her parents’ home.

The ocean sparkled under a sun about to slip below the horizon, and the waves made a soft shushing sound as they rolled onto the shore. If only she could escape there now. When something upsetting happened, a walk on the beach always helped to calm her. Cody’s unexpected appearance was certainly one of those times. As soon as the party was over...

Bookworm Nation - Review

"I thought this was a fun read, a nice escape in a charming small town setting. If you enjoy contemporary romance this is a good one!"

I Am A Reader - Excerpt

“Are you finished now?” Her words came out sharper than she’d intended. She must be in worse shape than she’d realized.

He frowned. “Not okay to take your picture? You’re the guest of honor. Besides, you’re a good subject.”

Wishful Endings - Review

"It was a fun and sweet story from beginning to end, with fun characters, complex family relationships, and a light romance."

"I always enjoy the characters journeys of growth and overcoming hard things. I really loved the setting--I love the beach and could picture living in this great, small town. I also loved the relationships between each character and his/her family members, as well as Luci in the role of a mentor to Tessa. This is a gentle, sweet, and clean summer romance, perfect for a pool or beach read."

"Cody sat at the table, put down his mug and clicked the mouse. A new picture flashed onto the screen. Another shot of Lucy. He chuckled. He's taken more pictures of her tonight than of anyone else."

“I like my place,” he said. “It’s cozy and has everything I need.”

“Maybe so, but do you think you’ll ever find a woman who’ll put up with all this?” Olive went to the sofa and plumped up the loose cushions.

“Not a question that needs to be answered, because I’m not looking. Not right now, anyway.”

"I enjoyed this story. The characters are fun with a lot of potential there — would have liked to have seen them decide to test their relationship waters earlier in the book."

Book Review ~ "The Feisty One" by Cami Checketts

The Feisty One: A Billionaire Bride Pact Romance by Cami Checketts
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Source: Received from author to review
Genre: Contemporary Romance/Suspense

Book Description:  Can he hide his heart or will the reporter take everything?
Maryn Howe isn’t intimidated by billionaire recluse, Tucker Shaffer, or his enormous log cabin in Island Park, Idaho. Maryn needs this interview and she’ll get it at any cost, even if the last four reporters were physically removed from his presence.
Tucker Shaffer has no desire to change his less than flattering public image; but his PR people persuade him to give it one more try. Ready to make nice with whoever comes through the door, Tucker is blindsided by a petite blond with an extra-large personality. As the snow piles up and the questions keep coming, Maryn discovers the secret Tucker Shaffer has spent the last four years torturing himself with. She suddenly sees him in a new light and she flees—right into danger and into Tucker’s arms.
But the danger has just begun and now Maryn has to make a choice—trust in Tucker or lose it all.

My thoughts: Maryn is a spunky down to earth girl. Her job as a reporter takes her to the home of the reclusive billionaire, Tucker Shaffer. From the moment they meet the attraction is evident. While Maryn may have made a pact to marry a billionaire as a young girl, it really wasn't her motivation in finding a husband.

Tucker frightens and becomes her hero within a short period of time. He has a past that he would like to remain hidden while she wants to find out everything she can about him.

One of the things that I like about Cami Checketts writing is that she adds an element of suspense to her stories that works out well. I like her writing style and how she portrays her characters. She makes them believable, even though they may be in circumstances that are not ordinary.

This is the third book of the Billionaire Bride Pact Romances that I have read. I have not been disappointed in any of them. This is as series that I will seek out and continue reading. When I think about ladies searching for a billionaire to marry, I immediately think of someone shallow, but the characters have had depth and goodness.

This book has some violence and kissing.

Check out the other two books in the series!

A Touching Video About Jesus, Just In Time For Easter ~ "Come Unto Me"

Young Samuel and little Mary are intrigued by the man called John the Baptist, but they can't take the chance of staying in one place long enough to listen to his message. On the run from Roman soldiers, the brother and sister must do whatever it takes to survive. But when they meet a kind woman at a well, she introduces them to her son, Jesus—and their meeting forever changes the children's lives.

My thoughts: I loved the message in this video.  The Savior, Jesus Christ, teaches children about faith.  He teaches them to repent and to "come unto Him."

Mary and Samuel are running.  They believe all of their family to be dead and are trying to survive.  They take care of each other and love each other.

They have the fortune of running into Mary.  I loved the gentle nature that the actress portrayed.  The love that she showed two children is as I would imagine the nature of the Son of God.  The story is told maintain from the perspective of the children.  We are introduced to the Savior as they see him.

I was touched by this short film.  It is only 30 minutes in length.

CHAPTER ONE, Part 1

“CODY JARVIS! What’s he doing here?” Luci Monroe stared at the man who’d just stepped out the back door of her parents’ home. “I didn’t see his name on the guest list,” she added.
Her sister, Francine, set a plate of crab cakes on the buffet table. “Maybe Don invited him,” she said. “Didn’t he say he had a surprise for you tonight?”
“He did, but I thought he meant the combo.” Luci nodded toward the musicians her older brother had hired. Their music provided a pleasant backdrop to the party celebrating Luci’s graduation from Seattle’s University of Washington and her return to Willow Beach.
“Cody’s spotted you,” Francine said. “Better put a smile on your face.”
“I’ll be okay. I’ve been over him for at least a year.” And yet, as she watched him approach, her heart was beating wildly.
“C’mere, Luci.” Cody opened his arms and swept her up in a warm embrace.
With a resigned sigh, she looped her arms around his neck and hugged him back.
He drew away and let his gaze rove over her. “Lookin’ good, Luci.”
“Thanks. You, too.”
And he did. She always thought the cliché “tall, dark and handsome suited him perfectly, and that still held true. He’d let his hair grow a little longer, but she liked it that way. And his brown-eyed gaze was as sharp as ever.
“Cody hugged Francine. “Hey, Fran, good to see you.”
“Hello, Cody.” Francine returned his hug.
Don joined them, carrying two bottles of beer. He handed one to Cody. “Here you go, buddy. Glad you could make it.” He turned to Luci. “How do you like your surprise?”
Luci propped her hands on her hips. “He’s a surprise, all right. I thought he was in Timbuktu or some other exotic place.”
Cody tossed his head back and laughed. “I’ll have to put that on my list. No, I just got back from Italy.”
“Still the freelance photographer?” Luci said, although she didn’t know why she asked when she knew the answer.
“Always.” Cody patted the camera attached to a leather strap slung around his neck. “And here you are, all graduated and degreed and starting a new job, I hear.”

Blog Tour ~ "If We Were a Movie" by Kelly Oram + tour giveaway!

Closeup of rough blue background

if we were a movie  If We Were a Movie by Kelly Oram (Power of the Matchmaker #3)
Rating: 4 of 5 stars
Source; Received electronic copy to review
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book Description: Music meets Movies in this sweet college romance from the bestselling author of Cinder & Ella. NYU freshman Nate Anderson is a triplet who is desperate to escape his wild and crazy brothers. After they screw things up for him one too many times, Nate flees his housing situation and takes the first available room for rent as far from his brothers as he can get. Enter his new roommate Jordan--a quirky LA girl who believes that everything in life has already been done in the movies. In this heartfelt tale of love, friendship and family, Nate learns how to deal with his new adult life using Hollywood films as a guide.

My thoughts: This book is part of the "Power of the Matchmaker" series.  Several authors take one central character, Pearl, and create a romance.  Pearl is a Chinese matchmaker from another time era.  To fully understand her part in the books and her calling as a matchmaker, you should read the introductory novella, Power of the Matchmaker.  The books are stand alone and do not be read in any specific order to be understood or appreciated.

One thing that I really like about this series is that each author writes their own interpretation of Pearl.  In this book she is portrayed differently.  The voice and tone of the book are clearly Kelly Oram.  I like her writing style, so it was fun for me to see and feel the difference.

In this story, Nate desperately needs a break from his brother's.  They happen to be triplets and the threesome is two too many for Nate.  His brothers have a different idea of how he should be living his life.  In a chance meeting (or destiny)with Pearl his life changes. He finds freedom with an unexpected roommate, Jordan.

Nate and Jordan are artistic personalities and majors. They have many things in common, even thought she is majoring in film and he is a music major.  They understand each other from the moment they meet.  For Nate's girlfriend, this is not a positive thing.  The  characters are quirky and I couldn't help but like them, even the obnoxious brothers are lovable.

This is a cute and entertaining book to read. There are references to intimacy, partying, and underage drinking.

"I thought Cinder & Ella jerked with my emotions too much but this one might have it beat."
"I finished reading If We Were a Movie yesterday. I loved it! I fell hard for Nate. Jordan was amazing! And Pearl's timing was perfect! "

"Amazing concept with movies as chapters, and fantastic storyline." "I loved this story and was humming along to the songs from the book whilst reading. I can see this book becoming the movie it was written to be." "If We Were a Movie made me want to binge watch movies, listen to old playlists and re-read it all at once."

TEASER: I handed Jordan the electric guitar that I’ve had since I was twelve, and laughed when her eyes got really big. “You play the electric guitar, too?” “Music major,” I teased, picking up my keyboard. “I play this, too. A little. And the bass guitar.” “Awesome.” She examined the electric guitar with awe. “Why do you seem so surprised?” She looked at me as if the answer to that question should be obvious. “Hello. Have you met yourself? You with an acoustic guitar singing soft songs around a campfire or in a coffee house makes perfect sense. But I can’t picture you up on a stage, jamming on your electric guitar like a rock star.” She studied me a moment, then shook her head. “You’ll have to play for me, or I’m not going to believe it.”
