Book Description: Have you ever fallen asleep during math class? Are you easily distracted while listening to your English teacher? Do you find yourself completely uninterested in geography? Well, it may not be your fault. The janitors at Welcher Elementary know a secret, and it's draining all the smarts out of the kids. Twelve-year-old Spencer Zumbro, with the help of his classmate Daisy Gullible Gates, must fight with and against a secret, janitorial society that wields wizard-like powers. Who can Spencer and Daisy trust and how will they protect their school and possibly the world? Janitors is book 1 in a new children s fantasy series by debut novelist Tyler Whitesides. You'll never look at a mop the same way again.
My thoughts: This is my son's favorite series of books (He is 11). I can see why he likes it so much. The book is full of action, adventure, and imagination.
Spencer is pulled into the world of the BEM (Bureau of Education Maintenance). There is a war brewing between the good and the bad janitors. Spencer is approached by both sides, but it takes a while to figure out who is good and who is bad.
In the meantime, toxites are invading the school. They use the brainwaves of children causing sleepiness and distracted behavior in students.
Magical janitorial equipment are the weapons used by warlocks, who happen to be janitors.
This book is very creative. I give it a high recommendation for reluctant readers as well as kids who like to read. It has many elements that will keep a child's attention.

The above picture of Tyler with my son is blurry. I know it is. My son is still mad at me for not getting a good picture.
