Dancing with Death by Andrea Heltsley
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
source: Received electronic ARC to review for ATOMR tours
Genre: Paranormal - Older YA readers
Book Description: Murders have plagued the woods in the past, making them a place of fear. Eighteen year old Wendy and her friends become worried when a new string of murders come to their high school. After a horrible car accident, Wendy returns to school, going from wallflower to popular overnight. As the murderer edges closer to Wendy she realizes things are changing. She is afflicted with nightmares that are all too real and she herself is undergoing unnatural changes. Learning the truth about her past, could be the key to saving her future.
My thoughts: Wendy is 18 and a senior in high school. Her life changes drastically when she is in a near fatal accident. Suddenly she has two love interests. Both are new to the school and very attractive. She is wondering what happened and how did the inconspicuous girl become desirable overnight?
I liked the book. At times I wondered if it was going to be a horror book because of her dreams of death. She was warned that death was coming for her. There have been a string of murders recently in her area. She is being warned from the grave.
The only real question that I had was how quickly she jumps into a physical relationship with both of her boyfriends. While it is explained in the book, it still seemed a little quick for me.
The paranormal aspect was very interesting. I won't say too much, because it was something that I anticipated while reading the book and was pleasantly surprised when it was revealed.
I would only recommend this book to mature YA readers. There is heavy physical content. While her virginity remains, I was surprised that it did. There are details about her experiences. I would strongly suggest that this book requires parental approval for younger readers.
