Cover Reveal ~ "The Cadet of Tildor"

A cover reveal is always a lot of fun.  I love to see the covers that the artists are developing and bring them to you.  Today it is the cover reveal for "The Cadet of Tildor" by Alex Lidell.  This is  a YA fantasy for readers 13 and older.  This book is set for release on January 10. 2013.

Book Description:  Having already survived six years at the Tildor's top military academy, sixteen-year-old Renee De Winter is determined to graduate, training day and night to compete with her male classmates. When the boys overpower her parries, she works harder. When a bully sabotages her gear, she fights without it. But when an underground crime group captures her mentor for its illegal gladiatorial games, she must choose between her career and her conscience. Determined to penetrate the group's inner circles, Renee will leap from academia to the crime filled streets, pick up a sword, and weigh law against loyalty.

About Alex:  Alex is a YA fantasy author, a Tamora Pierce addict, a horse rider, and paramedic. The

  1. First, I would like to say that I love the plot/subject matter/idea of the book! I am eager to see more depictions of strong, independent, can-do-it-without-a-man young women in YA fiction!! So much of what I see in the genre is all about the girl who instantly falls in love with the boy and who cannot function in life without him (and of course they're both drop-dead gorgeous)... not my cup of tea, for the most part. So I'm very happy to hear about your book!

Re. the swag pack, I think the dog tags are pretty great, as they really give a sense of what the book is all about - the cadet!

I also really like the cover. I was reading a different blog revealing another book cover and the blog author said she liked the cover because it wasn't all about the "beautiful girl" that seems to be on every YA release. I love that about this book! There is no beautiful girl in sight - and in fact, you can't really tell whether the arm belongs to a young woman or young man.

In two words, the cover says to me: STRONG and TRADITIONAL. "Strong" of course refers to the young woman who can hoist - and actually use! - that beautiful sword. "Traditional" I mean in the sense that the cover tells me that this will be a more traditional fantasy, not one of the newer group with beautiful teens with special powers (not that there's anything wrong with those! ...but I'm definitely more of a traditional fantasy fan).

The book looks great, and I look forward to reading it! I hope that I can pass it on to my niece who will be 11 when it comes out...if not immediately, at least when she hits the tween years :). Good luck as you approach the release date!
