Yours Affectionately, Jane Austen by Sally Smith O'Rourke
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Source: Received to Review
Genre: Romance/Time Travel
Book Description: Was Mr. Darcy real? Is time travel really possible? For pragmatic Manhattan artist Eliza Knight the answer to both questions is absolutely, Yes! And Fitzwilliam Darcy of Pemberley Farms, Virginia is the reason why!
His tale of love and romance in Regency England leaves Eliza in no doubt that Fitz Darcy is the embodiment of Jane Austen’s legendary hero. And she’s falling in love with him. But can the man who loved the inimitable Jane Austen ever love average, ordinary Eliza Knight?
Eliza’s doubts grow, perhaps out of proportion, when things start to happen in the quiet hamlet of Chawton, England; events that could change everything. Will the beloved author become the wedge that divides Fitz and Eliza or the tie that binds them?
My thoughts: The idea of time travel is fascinating. Fitzwilliam Darcy has become the epitome of the romantic hero. Many have wondered if he was patterned after a particular person. Sally Smith O'Rourke has taken these questions and created a story.
To be fair in rating this book, I have not read the first. I felt as if I were entering a work in progress, which is accurate. It took awhile for me to become engaged with the story. If I would have read the first book first, my thoughts and impressions may have been different. The irony in this situation is that I own a kindle edition of The Man Who Loved Jane Austen, and have been wanting to read it for quite awhile.
This is a sweet and tender story of Eliza at Fitz. He is the Fitzwilliam Darcy from Jane's Pride and Prejudice. The catch is that he is from the 21st century and traveled back in time to meet Jane Austen. That is the story from the first book.
This book deals with the insecurities that Eliza feels. She is afraid that Fitz is still in love with Jane and she pales in comparison. This book is their journey to loving and trusting each other. There is another time traveler in this story who adds interest and perspective.
It is a very cute story. I would however, recommend starting with the first book.
There is sexual innuendo and kissing in this book.
