Fractured Soul by Rachel McClellan ~ (Blog tour/giveaway)

Fractured Soul (Fractured Light #2)Fractured Soul by Rachel McClellan

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Source: Received to review for this blog tour from ATOMR
 Genre: YA Paranormal

Book Description: Llona will do whatever it takes to protect her new found friends and home, but the dark plot that is threatening Lucent Academy, a school that’s supposed to be a safe place for Auras, may be too powerful for even Llona to defeat. This fast-paced tale of love, loyalty, and overcoming the darkness will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last page!

My thoughts:  Llona's life doesn't get easier than it was in Fractured Light. In fact it becomes more complicated and dangerous.  She has entered an all girls school for Aura's. She is older than the typical new student, and still doesn't fit in. She is looked at with scorn and contempt.  Fortunately, her friend, May, was able to join her.

There is something wrong happening. The girls are complacent. The school seems to be teaching them not to use their powers to help make change. There is no competition. The girls are not encouraged to think for themselves. Their history only spans back to the 1930's. The student's blood is drawn once a month and they are required to take little blue pills.

I enjoyed reading this book. Fractured Soul is well written and the plot is well developed. New paranormal species were added in this story. The additions of Tess and Liam were welcome. They added a new perspective and interest. Both had a major role to play in Llona's development and training. The Vyken's are still bad, they are like a vampire and they play a huge role in this story.

Llona's and Christians love story was brief and poignant. There was so much going on in the story that there wasn't a lot of time for romance. I liked the times that they were able to sneak time together and be themselves.

This book is a wonderful addition to the paranormal book world. I love that it is a book that I would feel comfortable letting a young teen read. I would suggest that if you want to read this book and haven't read Fractured Light yet, that you start with the first.  There will be a third book in this series, "Fractured Truth".  I am looking forward to reading it.

About Rachel: Rachel was born and raised in Idaho, a place secretly known for its supernatural creatures. When she's not in her writing lair, she's partying with her husband and four children. Her love for storytelling began as a child when the moon first possessed the night. For when the lights went out, her imagination painted a whole new world. And what a scary world it was…
