Interview with Camber from Carol Oates "Ember" & a giveaway!

I am so excited to have Candra Ember on the blog today.  She is the heroine in Carol Oates new book Ember.

She has answered a few questions, with Carol's  help of course, to introduce us to her story. This interview took place a couple of weeks after the close of the book, to help give us some perspective after this story has finished and in anticipation of the story that will come. (I checked with Carol, and there will be another book featuring Candra and her angel friends.)

 How would you describe yourself?
Probably stubborn, once I have my mind set on something I won’t be easily dissuaded. I enjoy all kinds of music and art, and I have an opinion on everything. I had this whole life plan before Sebastian showed up. The only reason I stayed in Acheron until then was for Brie. I think I’m fairly independent... or at least I try to be. It’s difficult at the moment with so many unknowns in my life. Sometimes I feel like a have this huge weight settled on my chest and it holds me down when I just want to scream at everyone to back off. I wrestle with being good and selfless in the way the Watchers around me presume me to be. Since the night of the ball, I’ve been feeling more and more like there’s something inside me struggling to come out.

How would you describe your relationship with Brie?
I think we are close. I love her. It’s complicated. For a long time there was just the two of us and we made a good team, even if she could be a little overbearing. I know she lied, but the sacrifice she made for me made it hard to stay mad. I’m not sure we’ve found a balance yet. She’s not just my stepmother anymore and I’m not a child. As a mom, she is not happy about my relationship choices, I know that much. I know she would do anything for me and I would do almost anything for her.

What was it like to fly with an angel?
Well, you might say who wouldn’t want to fly with a shirtless and incredibly hot angel. I’ve flown twice, once you know about already. It’s weird to say the least. I think I left my stomach on the ground. I shouldn’t have been able to breathe but I could, and it should be have been cold but it wasn’t. The world seemed like a different place. It was like being in a dream I didn’t want to wake up from.

The second time was just as wonderful and painfully beautiful as the first. Now, I wish I kept my feet on the ground.

What advice would you give me in dealing with angels?
Angels lie as easily as breathing. Never trust an angel completely. They have been living among humans so long they’ve taken on human vices and human emotions. It makes them even more dangerous and capable of very bad things. They look like you and me, except infinitely more striking. Remember they are not, and never were, human. They are ancient warriors, most with a chip on their shoulder of some sort. angels can get inside your head and make you believe what they want you to believe. Awareness of them and their gifts is your only protection. Watch your back.

You have two incredibly attractive and sexy men fighting over you.  That is a situation that many women would love to be in, can you tell us what it's like?
They are men, but they are also angels and that puts a completely new slant on things. I don’t think I was ever under the impression they were fighting over me, it’s more to do with what I represent to both of them. These two have wanted to kill each other since the beginning of forever, long before I ever existed. Frankly, there have been times I’ve wanted to let them get on with it. I know they both genuinely care for me but that came later. If they weren’t fighting over me, it would be something else, so I don’t let it go to my head.

About Carol:
Carol Oates has never been one to remain still for long. After her mother’s mad dash to the hospital through the empty city streets of Dublin, Ireland, Carol made her debut into the world in the early hours of Christmas morning. Since then her pace has not slowed down in the least.
Carol was introduced to the world of supernatural books when, as a child, her family moved to a coastal suburb of north Dublin known as Clontarf; famous as the birthplace of Bram Stoker, the prolific author responsible for breathing life into the legendary story of “Dracula.” This stirred in Carol an early passion for reading about all things supernatural. When that passion was combined with a deep interest in the history and folklore of Ireland, as well as an active and vivid imagination, Carol Oates, the author, was born. Carol’s love of writing about anything not entirely “human" emerged, and the premise for her debut novel, “Shades of Atlantis,” came to life.
Carol still lives in Dublin, but spends a great deal of time traveling though the counties of Ireland and Northern Ireland with her partner and her son. When not traveling through the countryside, Carol spends her days at the office and her evenings immersed in the world of legends and mythical creatures. (I snatched her bio from Goodreads.)

Thought I would share Carol's
pic on twitter.

I wanted to share a couple of my thoughts about this book:

I was very excited to read this book.  I purchased an ebook copy it on it's release date from Omnific Publishing.  Later I was offered a review copy, which I declined, because I already owned my own. I think because I declined a review copy Micah at Omnific Publishing told me I could give away an ebook copy on my blog.

Carol has left me in awe at her descriptive writing style. She weaves a web of words masterfully. She thoroughly trapped me in her story until the end and left me wanting more.

Why do I think Carol is so great at description?  Let me share a small bit that really caught my attention.

"When they stretched out behind to their full size, the fine plumage looked luxurious and soft as satin.  They trembled gently in the light breeze, thinning out to golden tips at the very edges.  Something about it reminder her of swans rising proudly from the water." pg 31 (I think - I read an ebook version)

I do have a content warning.  There is profanity and steamy kissing scenes that hint at more.  Also a few sexual innuendo's.

  22. marybelle's comment made me laugh. I do content warnings so that any readers who may be offended or upset can be warned ahead of time. (Or parents of teenage readers know if it fits within their comfort zone to have teens read it.)I also realize that the warnings can be an enticement for other readers. It's a win/win to do content warnings.

This is such a great opporunity to be involved in this blog tour and I wouldn't mind the prizes given at the end of the tour myself.
