Children's Picture Book Review ~ "The Midwife of Bethlehem" by Shad Driggs

The Midwife of Bethlehem by Shad Driggs
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Source: Received to Review
Genre: Christmas Picture Book

Book Description:  A beautifully illustrated telling of the Christmas nativity through the eyes of the women who may have come to help Mary give birth. She would have known of the prophesies about the Messiah to be born in her town. As a spiritually atuned women, would she have known Jesus when he was born? And what kind of experience might she have had?

My thoughts: I love the thought that women were in attendance at the birth of the Christ Child helping Mary through the process of delivering the Son of God. In my brain, it makes perfect sense. That God would send others to help bring His Son into the world.

This is as very simple story that tells the story of a midwife, Rebecca, who is prepared to help Mary. Her profession puts her at the birth of many children, but once she hold the Savior in her arms, she knows that is "no ordinary child".

This book is perfect to sit down and read alone, or to a child. It is a great help to ponder the birth of Jesus and the meaning  of why we celebrate Christmas.
