Middle Grade review ~ "Tuesdays at the Castle" by Jessica Day George

Tuesdays at the Castle (Castle Glower #1)Tuesdays at the Castle by Jessica Day George
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Source: Purchased
Genre: Middle Grade Fiction - Ages 8 and up

Book Description: Tuesdays at Castle Glower are Princess Celie's favorite days. That's because on Tuesdays the castle adds a new room, a turret, or sometimes even an entire wing. No one ever knows what the castle will do next, and no one-other than Celie, that is-takes the time to map out the new additions. But when King and Queen Glower are ambushed and their fate is unknown, it's up to Celie, with her secret knowledge of the castle's never-ending twists and turns, to protect their home and save their kingdom. This delightful book from a fan- and bookseller-favorite kicks off a brand-new series sure to become a modern classic.

My thoughts: I love reading Jessica Day George's books. She writes with a voice that is witty, descriptive, and fun to read.

In this book she has taken an inanimate object, the castle, and brought it to life. The caste is one of my favorite characters. It doesn't speak, but through it's actions, is very endearing. It is protective of it's family. It is full of love and life.

The royal children are imaginative and quick on their feet. They don't let other's dictate their actions. They are loyal to each other, the servants, and the kingdom. The way that they problem solve will entertain the target age of the book, middle grade.

  1. I just love when an author brings things to live that are not "living"! Sounds like a cute book...great review

  2. I remember reading this book. I read it a long time ago. I saw that it was published in 2011 but it feels like it was longer than that. One of the things that drew me to the book was the idea of a castle that changed. It was a good read!
