Book Review ~ "Does This Insecurity Make Me Look Fat?" by Michelle Wilson

Does This Insecurity Make Me Look Fat?Does This Insecurity Make Me Look Fat? by Michelle Wilson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Source: Received to Review
Genre: LDS inspiratinal

Book Description: • Why do clothing stores hang fun-house mirrors in their dressing rooms?

• The laundry doesn’t cry when it’s not folded, so why should I?

• Can I be confident even if an elevator calls me fat?

Michelle Wilson’s humorous yet poignant insights help women examine the limitations we place on ourselves out of insecurity and self-doubt. We have faith in God, but do we know that He has faith in us?

When we see ourselves with God’s eternal perspective, we can feel confident and whole—even in our imperfection. Just think what we might accomplish if we truly believe that we are more important than we know, stronger than we realize, and extraordinary in every way.

My thoughts: When I saw the title of the book, Does This Insecurity Make Me Look Fat?, I knew it was a book that I wanted and needed to read.

Michelle Wilson takes a deeper look into our insecurities as women. She takes emotions that everyone feels and brings them into perspective. She talks about eternal perspective. Perspective is with a capital P in her book. A quote that I loved is "The opinion of another person does not define you. It merely shows their view of you. It reflects their reality, not God's. (Light bulb switches on in my brain at this point.) How many times in life do I try to measure up to an unrealistic expectation that is fueled by my desire to be respected/loved by my peers?

This book is written with humor and spiritual understanding. It has eight chapters each highlighting a message that is pertinent and powerful.

#1 All the Little Leaves: The Power of Perspective
#2 Does This Insecurity Make Me Look Fat? : The Enemies of Perspective
(My favorite chapter ~ It's highly highlighted.)
#3 I'm Right Here: Understanding Our Relationship with God
#4 Heavenly Bifocals: Seeing Purpose in Our Trials
#5 Ice Cream and Choices: Discover, Decide, and Become Who You Can Be
#6 She Shoots! She Scores!...Not: The Pearls of Progress
#7 Does This Confidence Make Me Look Magnificent?: Experiencing the Joy of Confidence
#8 A Good Old-Fashioned Pep Talk: Because We all Need One Sometimes

I am very grateful that I took the time to read this book. As I stated before, this is a book that I needed to read, to help me with my perspective, perseverance, and general outlook.
