A Bargained-For BrideA Bargained-For Bride by Marcia Lynn McClure
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Source: Received to Review
Genre: Romance in the old West

Book Excerpt:  “You’re the sweetest girl in Mourning Dove Creek, you know?” Jack mumbled as he paused in kissing Jilly a moment. Jilly smiled. “And you’re the handsomest man in Mourning Dove Creek, you know,” she flirted in return. Jack smiled. “I do know,” he said. Jilly giggled. Jack Taylor was so predictable—and a little conceited. He really did think he was the handsomest man in Mourning Dove—and he was, for the most part. Secretly, however, if Jilly ever allowed herself to be completely honest about it (which she tried to avoid), there was one other man in Mourning Dove who always crossed her mind when the subject of the handsomest man in town arose. Yet there was no lingering on thinking of that man—no sirree! Not for a moment! Not for any reason—ever. And so Jilly just kept telling Jack that he was the handsomest man in Mourning Dove Creek. Besides, it was almost true—being that the other man lived outside of town and not right in town the way Jack did

My thoughts:  Jilly thinks that she has life figured out. She loves her grandparents who are her guardians. She has fun "sparking" with the handsome Jack. She thinks that he may love her and plan on spending the rest of his life with her.

Her dreams change when the handsome hero Boone asks her grandfather for her hand. She finds that she will be a bride, but the groom is not who she originally planned on.

This book is a fun one to read. Jilly takes an maturity journey. She learns some hard lessons and begins to realize the things that are important and find out what her heart really wants.

Boone is a great romantic hero. He takes care of everyone else, except himself. He also had some life lessons to be learned.

I think my favorite characters were her grandparents.  They are an amazing couple who have a lot of love for each other.  They get what life means and how to enjoy it.  They are a great support for Jilly and give her great advice along the way.

This book is clean, it has mild swearing.

  1. This is one tour I saw, but decided not to sign up for. I have really enjoyed some of Marcia's books, but sometimes I need a little more, so I have to be in the right mood for these. It sounded like you enjoyed it. :)
