Picture Book Review ~ "Jump" by Julia Dweck

JumpJump by Julia Dweck
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Source: Received to Review
Genre: Children's Picture Book

Book Description:  Geared for readers 4-8, JUMP! is the story of a jack in the box who is afraid to jump outside his box. The story is filled with engaging rhymes and visually stunning illustrations that nurture creative thinking and the courage to take a leap of faith outside your comfort zone. I've also included activities to extend the learning for teachers and parents to share with their young readers.

My thoughts: Jack in the Box is proud of his accomplishment, he is taking his 1000th jump. Things do not go as planned, his spring is rusty and breaks, leaving him outside of the box. He just wants to go home.

While searching for his box, he and Barker (the dog) go on a great adventure. They bungee jump, jump from an airplane, jump into a lake, etc. Being outside his box is more fun than he could imagine.

I thought this story was very cute. I loved the message portrayed, that sometimes stepping outside of your comfort zone leads to opportunities that are wonderful. This book has a cute rhyme and flows very well. The illustrations are well done.

This book is sure to keep the attention and spark the imagination of children.
