But when he recovers the hand-carved Baby Jesus that everyone thought had been destroyed in a fire the year his Grandma died, Chris realizes that some gifts are even more important than skateboards

My thoughts: This is a beautifully written short story.

Christopher is surly and unhappy when he goes to his Grandfather's for Christmas. He doesn't think that he will get the present that he has wanted this year. He also misses his Grandmother, who died in a fire three year prior.

His Grandfather tells him the story of wooden nativity figures on the mantle. They are blackened from a house fire, the figure of the baby Jesus wasn't found in the rubble.

Christopher's heart is touched in a way that he didn't think possible. He finds the spirit of Christmas when he opens his heart and helps another in need.

This story takes 10-15 minutes to read. It is touching and is perfect to help bring the real meaning of the season into your thoughts and heart.
