Air by Shauna Granger ~ Character Interview with Jeremy + ebook giveaway

Today I am delighted to share a recent interview that I had with Jeremy.  He is a troubled young man and provides the conflict in this story.  Let's read what he has to say!

How would you describe your relationship with your brother?

In a word? Difficult. We are only about a year apart in age, so when we were very small, we were friends, but as we got older the natural inclination to compete took over. Jimmy was always more coordinated and athletic than I so he always won when it came to that stuff and he wasn’t that bad at school so even though I had better grades than he did, it wasn’t a huge victory for me. My dad didn’t really care about grades anyway, so long as we weren’t failing, so to him, I was still a big letdown. Eventually Jimmy was so wrapped up with being Dad’s favorite and being popular in school he just started treating me like my dad did. So needless to say, once we were both in high school, he didn’t really care about being my friend anymore.

You spent some time in jail, what was that like?

Terrifying, I definitely don’t recommend it. You know, most of the guys in there keep to themselves, but because you’re mostly in common rooms, you’re surrounded by these guys and you have no idea why they’re in there. I mean, they could just be shoplifters or they could be killers waiting for transport, and there you are, sitting next to them like some idiot with a death wish. I guess I could say I was lucky it was just county lock up and not prison-prison, but having to use a toilet without the luxury of a closing door, surrounded by thirty other guys, didn’t feel so lucky at the time.

When did you begin to realize that you have magical abilities?

Not until this past year, when the fairies started showing themselves to me. I’m not even really sure that I have magical abilities or if they were lending their powers to me since I don’t remember ever being able to do anything like that before. I’ve always wanted to be able to do magic so I suppose that’s what attracted them to me, that and my anger issues, unfortunately.

Can you describe your fairy friends?

Well, I wouldn’t really call them “friends”, not after the trouble they got me into and it wasn’t so much as “friends” as it was one fairy in particular. She was so beautiful and so nice to me and it was because of her that I found my magic. But now that I know what they’re really like, seeing their ugly side, I would give back all the magical abilities I’ve ever had just to go home. Fairies can be amazing, helpful spirits, but get on their wrong side, or get involved with the wrong kind, and they can rip your world apart. They’re like the epitome of magic; you should never mess with it if you don’t really know what you’re doing.

In this book you are portrayed as both a villain and a victim.  Which role do you identify with more?

I don’t really want to identify with either, to be honest with you, but to be fair, I think I felt like a victim, but came off as a villain. I was just so angry for so long, it was intoxicating to finally be able to fight back and make people feel the way they had been making me feel. I guess I was lucky that there were people who could see that I was in trouble and needed help even if, at the time, I didn’t want that help.

Thanks Jeremy and Shauna!

Book Description: It was a rough start to the school year for Shayna and her friends, Jodi and Steven, but thankfully summer break is near. Trying to sort out her feelings for the new guy in town, Shayna agrees to let Jensen join her on a group date with her friends. While out they end up at a local coffee house where their classmate, social outcast Jeremy McCormick, is humiliated by his baseball star brother. When Jeremy runs away from the jeering crowd, Shayna and Jodi hear the unmistakable sound of a thousand wings chasing after him, but no one else seems to hear them. These are not like any air elementals that Shayna or Jodi have ever encountered before and they fear Jeremy has gotten himself tangled up in something too dangerous for him to handle. But when Shayna tries to help Jeremy control his magical abilities she realizes it might be the biggest mistake of her life.

Quick review:  I love to read good books and this fell into that category.

The coven of three is back together facing a new threat. A troubled young man starts to create havoc with an unfamiliar "fairy". It is up to Shayna, Steven, and Jodi to work together and help him work through or conquer the problems that got him in the mess he is in. Those are the plans, but plans don't always work the way you want them to.

I love stories using elemental powers, fairy creatures, and strong characters. This book definitely has those characteristics.

This is a great fantasy book. I would recommend it to readers over 16 due to some mature content.
