Longing For Home by Sarah M. Eden
Rating: 4 of 5 stars
Source: Received to Review
Genre: Historical Fiction/Romance

Book Description: Twenty-six-year-old Katie Macauley has placed all her hope in Hope Springs, a small town in the 1870 Wyoming Territory. But if she wants to return home to Ireland to make amends with her estranged family, she'll need to convince the influential Joseph Archer to hold true to his word and keep her on his payroll as his housekeeper despite her Irish roots. The town is caught in an ongoing feud between the Irish and the "Reds" the frontiersmen who would rather see all the Irish run out of town and the Irish immigrants who are fighting to make a home for themselves in the New World. When Joseph agrees to keep Katie on as his housekeeper, the feud erupts anew, and Katie becomes the reluctant figurehead for the Irish townsfolk. As the violence escalates throughout the town, Katie must choose between the two men who have been vying for her love though only one might be able to restore hope to her heart.

My thoughts:  I love Sarah Eden's writing!  She hasn't written a book that I haven't anxiously started and finished. Well, I haven't read all of them yet, but I do own the books that I haven't read and will get to them sometime in the future.

Sarah Eden does well with writing  historical fiction.  This book takes on the 1870's in Wyoming Territory.  The subject is the poor public opinion of Irish Immigrants.  In this case the antagonism leads to a renewal of a feud.

Katie wants to work to earn passage back to Ireland.  She wants to return to her family to show that she has done something good with her life.  She feels guilty for the death of her younger sister, she was eight at the time.  She wants her family to forgive her.  She has been working and wandering for 18 years, seeking penance.

Contrary to her plans she comes to the attention of two eligible bachelors.  One is her employer and the other an Irish Immigrant who we meet early on.  Both are unique characters and add a lot to the story. I loved the shameless flirting of Tavis O'Connor. Joseph Archer is a devoted father and a man of honor.  The question is can one of them capture her heart and change her plans to return to Ireland?

Sarah Eden captured the time and heart of the community. It is a sad time in history.  I can understand the fear of locals to loosing jobs, but I have a hard time understanding how they could treat a community so poorly.

If you have never read a Sarah Eden book, this is a good one to start with.  She writes clean romance that will have you longing for her next book.

  1. Thanks for the chance to win this interesting book. My husband's people came over from Ireland a couple of generations ago but he grew up hearing the stories of how poorly the Irish were treated here in the U.S.in the past. Should be good reading.

    Thanks :)
