My thoughts: I have not read the first book, The Stone Guardian, yet... I am definitely intrigued by the world and mythology that Theresa McClinton has created in her books.
I admit that I was a little confused at the start of the book. There is definitely a story that I knew that I had missed. It didn't take long for me to feel semi up to speed and begin to enjoy the book. I would recommend if you are interested in reading the book to read the first one, first.
Tara's vivid nightmares of a past she would rather forget, or better yet, not have experienced have put her on an emotional edge. She isn't eating or sleeping and her body is weakening Because of her trauma, she is left open to make unwise decisions. She is unwilling to accept help to conquer her past and by so doing has left herself vulnerable.
Because of the torture content and dropping of the "f" bomb, I would recommend this book to older/mature readers. Ages 17+.
