“A solid fantasy that wears its spirituality lightly yet effectively.”

Introducing
The Fays
Belenus, the master of the North, does not often leave his
glittering palace or his green hills. You are not likely, even if you roam his
kingdom, to ever see him. You may be glad of that, and do not try to change it.
Belenus is, you may be sure, a sight to fill your eyes, tall and regal with
bright eyes like sapphires. Almost he appears human, if humans could be so
beautiful. But he’s not safe.
No one
knows how many centuries, how many thousands of years Belenus has ruled the North.
As far as we know, he has always ruled it, and as far as we can say, he always
will. He is a Fay, you know, and Fays don’t die.
A strange
race, a powerful race, an immortal and beautiful race: These are the Fays. Some
say that Fays are the fallen spirits of heaven, exiled here in the mortal
world. Some say that they are the ancient children of the forests and hills,
nourished by the sun and by the deep, cold waters that run in dark places.
Some say
that when the stars were young, one star shattered, and the shining pieces fell
to the earth and became the Fays.
Is there a
true tale among these tales, lore among these stories? I do not know, and many
strange adventures you will have before you meet someone who will tell you. No
one who has met a Fay has ever dared to ask him what he is, or where he came
from.
She was born to Wisconsin, expatriates in California, grew up on the East Coast, and now lives in the Midwest. Her principal hobbies are politics, history, novels, and coffee.

Book Description: Keiran, the Captain of the Hosts of Belenus, is carrying tribute home to his master, the immortal ruler of the North. But before Keiran reaches his master, his path will cross with another's. Through him, the Captain will see again the work of Belenus.
Like its companion novel The Valley of Decision, The Sunrise Windowsis a story of the Dochraitay people and their Fay master.
My thoughts: The Sunrise Windows is a short introduction toThe Valley of Decision. It introduces the characters and feelings behind the story. It's a prequel.
I haven't read The valley of Decision, but I think that the short introduction sets the feeling of unrest and depicts the corruption of the Fey rulers.
This was an interesting short story. It's well written and a quick introduction.
The more I read about this book, the more I want to read the actual thing! Thanks for sharing!
