My thoughts: Having a strong support system is important at any age. I Am Strong! I Am Smart! begins as Lu is struggling with problems that all/most children have. Her grandmother, who lives with Lu's family, teaches Lu how to deal with life's problems. She is positive and uplifting in teaching patience, handling bullies, self messages, and doing chores. Her messages of love and encouragement are amazing, inspiring, and appropriate for a young girl.
In a twist, Grandma has a stroke and it's Lu's turn to help her grandmother. She shows how she has internalized the messages as she encourages her grandmother.
This book is perfect for kids and adults. I needed the gentle reminders. We all need to be reminded that we are strong and smart too.
