THINK about him. Reject any anger that might surface. Don’t focus on the words or deeds that created the gap between you. Close your eyes and chant “I’m bigger than this. I’m better than this. Holding on to these memories is only hurting me.” InHealing of the Heart, Ruby McCoy is having a tough time with this. Her father was a murdering outlaw. The shame of his crimes—and what they forced her to do—has impacted every area of her life, so really, who can blame her!

"This book is totally adorable! Once I started it, I didn’t want to stop and stayed up way past my bedtime to finish it! . . . I love the setting of this book. You really get immersed in it as well as in the plot. You’re going to love it!"

Rebecca: Imagine waking up to your new husband and a rich new life only to find nothing is as it appeared to be before you said “I do.”

"Oh I do love a good clean romance novel. I was hooked from the beginning.

I liked the setting, the plot and the characters. I was able to feel their emotions and felt like the characters were very well developed. I could easily picture myself there."

Jessica and Gracie's Tree - Five Movies that Feature Forgiveness

Desperate to provide for you motherless children, a former bounty hunter and hired killer is forced to return to his old ways in Unforgiven.

Heidi Reads... - Excerpt

An idea began to form in Rex’s mind.

…hunting down the animal who had killed his pa.

Wishful Endings - Excerpt

As she handed him a small plate, his fingers grazed hers. It lasted all of a second, yet it sent eddies of warmth all the way down to his toes. She was close enough that he could inhale the scent of lilacs, floating from her dark hair…and noticed for the first time a sprinkling of tiny freckles dotting her cheeks.

Ruby McCoy is haunted by her father's sins....

When Ruby McCoy arrives in Fairplay, her ornate carriage is followed by an entourage who heft steamer trunks, hatboxes, and traveling bags into the hotel…where she has booked the entire second floor. Upon her notorious gangster father's death, the now-wealthy Ruby, hiding under her mother's maiden name, set out to right her father's wrongs. Ruby is determined to spend every penny of her inherited "blood money" on those who paid the price for her father's crimes.

Sheriff Rex Truett doesn't trust Ruby and doesn't care who knows it. The keeper of Fairplay's law and order makes it his business to find out why a stranger, especially a beautiful, spoiled, rich, female stranger, would set up businesses, donate to schools, hire workmen to rebuild houses, and provide access to the best medical care. But when a typhoid epidemic sweeps through the city, he is forced to reconsider.

Will Rex blame Ruby for her father's sins? Or will he accept the possibility that she is trying to create and feel the peace her father stole?

No Peace with the Dawn by E.B. Wheeler and Jeffery Bateman
Rating: 3 of 5 stars
Source: Received eBook from Publisher to Review
Genre: Historical WWI fiction

Book Description:  In 1917, the Great War seems far from Logan, Utah. But soon it will change the lives of suffragette and mechanic Clara, Swiss-German immigrant and LDS convert Trudi, Marine Corps volunteer Reed, and Shoshone seeking U.S. citizenship Joseph. This novel weaves real events with compelling fictional characters into a sweeping tale of war, romance, self-discovery, and sacrifice.

My Thoughts:  The book begins before the US entered WWI.  A group of college students in Logan, Utah live in a time where women's suffrage is a point of debate and young men wonder if they will be called upon to enter the war.

There are a lot of characters in the group of friends.  Sometimes I had a hard time trying to remember who each of them were and where they fit into the story.  The author's tell the story to the reader.  I had a hard time picturing the events and wanted a little more description.  It took me a while to figure it out.

The time before the war depicts a relatively care free life of the students.  They enjoy going to debates, concerts, playing sports, horse racing, and driving in a Model T.  It's hard to think of a time when people could stand on the side bar of a car and pile in without seat belts.  It's amazing how much society, technology and safety have changed in the last 100 years.

Life changes for the characters when the United States enters the war.  The innocence is lost and the harsh realities of fighting are described.  The prejudice against Germans is detailed.  It is sad to me how good people are treated with distrust and as an enemy.  There is a lot that can be learned through history about similar situations we face today.

If you enjoy war stories and history, this may be a right fit for you.  The book has war violence and some kissing.  Yes, this book has some romance!

Guster gasped. In the yellow light he could see the creature’s true form. It was covered in shaggy white fur. There was no discernable head on top of its hulking shoulders. Instead, its tiny orange eyes were set in its round chest, nearly invisible behind its knotted, tangled brows. A large mouth spanned across the top of its torso, with teeth like rhino horns protruding from its gums.
Yummy.
Mariah screamed. Then the passengers up front screamed too, their bodies frozen in place, their eyes wide with horror.
“Bu . . . bu . . . bu . . . bu,” said Zeke, his mouth popping open and shut like a trapdoor.
“It is him! It’s Yummy! The Insatiable!” Gaucho cried.
“What the . . .” muttered the bus driver.
Yummy took two giant strides forward and swung his massive arms at the bus’s grill, stabbing his claws into the metal.
“GO!” cried Mariah.

Love and Fat-Free Cheese by Crissy Sharp

Love and Fat-Free Cheese
Love and Fat-Free Cheese by Crissy Sharp
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Source: Received eBook to review from publisher
Genre: Clean Romance/Suspense

Book Description:  Fat-free cheese is okay--unless you've tasted real cheese. Juliet Easton learns this about love too as she uncovers who truly loves her, and who is using her to get to the secret she knows about the disappearance of her sister's fiance and the pharmaceutical conspiracy he plans to reveal. Can she protect her loved ones' lives and her heart? You'll be hooked from Asiago to Zamorano cheese in this suspenseful and hilarious romantic thriller.

My thoughts: The first thing that I thought of when I saw this title was "diet cookbook." I had to take a second look and read the blurb to find out that it was in fact a novel that sounded very interesting. There are unique references to food.

This book has romance and suspense. It begins with Juliet and her brother at a yoga class. I related with Juliet and found her personality adorable from the first pages. She has a great support group in her family. She is close to her brother,Everett, and her sister, Eva. They have been through some tough times and are stronger as a family because of their trials. One of the main trials throughout the book is they are dealing with the aftermath of Eva's fiancee's disappearance. This is where the suspense comes in. Her sister is followed everywhere she goes and the bad guys aren't giving up, even after two years. This leads to interesting, suspenseful, and dramatic situations.

I loved the romance aspect of the book. Juliet has a couple of guys interested in her, but only one captures her heart. The romance is cute and full of misunderstandings and misinterpretations.

This book is well written. It has great pacing. The characters and the plot are engaging. I will be watching out for books written by Crissy Sharp in the future.

This is a clean romance with a little bit of violence.

Healing of the Heart by Loree Lough (Blog Tour with a giveaway!)

On Tour with Prism Book Tours.

Healing Of The Heart (Secrets of Sterling Street)Healing of the Heart by Loree Lough
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Genre: Historical Christian Romance

Book Description:  Ruby McCoy is haunted by her father's sins....

My thoughts: Fairplay is a small, peaceful town in Colorado. The book is set during the time of the Old West where a sheriff tried to safeguard his town against outlaws and gangs. The sheriff in Fairplay is Rex Truitt. He wants to keep all illegal elements out of his town and his suspicions are set upon wealthy Ruby McCoy and her mother. Who knows if they have come to scam the community? He knows there is a secret and is determined to find it.

Ruby has a heart of gold. She and her mother have set upon their journey to heal the hearts of the communities her father plundered as a leader of an outlaw gang. He found justice at the end of a noose, but Ruby wants to give back to the people he hurt and Fairplay is the last town on her list.

I loved that Rex and Ruby are strong characters with a strong moral code. Both have their secrets from their past that motivate them to do good. Their pasts are connected and they have the potential to help each other heal. The town is made up of a lot of characters. It was fun to get to "know" them as I turned the pages. I really enjoyed the dynamics of the town and the people who populate it. This book is the third in a series. I had not read the first two, but I felt as if I followed along with the dynamics and the town without reading the others. I think it would be fun to read both and see what I missed.

The book caught my attention and kept it throughout the story. I wanted to find out if Rex and Ruby could find healing and a future with each other. There are two adorable orphans who pulled at my heart strings. There are family secrets and mysteries revealed. There are a great many things to recommend this book to readers.

This is a clean romance with Christian themes.

A very inspired and original compilation for this election year, God Is in the House is a collection of essays by members of Congress who reflect on their deep faith and how it guides them as legislators. The book was compiled by Representative Virginia Foxx who personally asked congressional colleagues who are devout in their faith to contribute, coworkers who are in Bible study with her, and colleagues she knows on a personal level. The book includes seventeen members of Congress, representing ten Christian denominations from both political parties.

************************
I pushed on the heavy wood door hanging awkwardly on its hinges, creaking back and forth as if drawn in and out by some great beast inside the cottage. Like the first time I’d been there, it was dark and dingy inside, lit only by a few candles and the glowing embers of a dying fire in the hearth.
Trophy heads still covered the walls: trolls, ogres, werewolves, and more Creach all killed by the witch over her many decades avenging the death of her son, Talib. The low, flickering light of the candles cast bizarre shadows about the room, making the heads seem somehow alive. But the witch had plucked the eyes out from each mount and tied the eyelids shut with thick string, ensuring they were dead. I touched my fingers to my own eyes, imagining my head on the wall. I swallowed hard but found my throat completely dry.
“Bella of the Woods,” I called. “You and I had an agreement. I am here to honor it. I expect you will do the same.”
A scratching sound came from the right side of the chimney where the stonework came out several feet from the wall, creating a corner of dark shadow. It took me a few seconds to realize the sound was actually a low, rasping laugh.
“Honor?” the voice said. “How dare you speak that word in my house? What honor has a hunter? What honor has a Creach?”
I slowly pulled my sword from my side. Against her magic, I didn’t suppose it would do much good, but it sure made me feel a lot better to have the cold steel in my hand.
“You call me both a hunter and Creach, so you know what I am,” I said, addressing the black shadow where the witch’s voice seemed to come from. “But you made the bargain with me nonetheless.”
“You come with the Jerusalem Stone from the Demon Lord himself?” the witch asked.
“I do.”
“Show me.”
I reached into my front pocket and pulled out the smooth stone, so plain that it could have been any stone on the edge of a road or under the flowing waters of a mountain stream. Yet so many had fought and died over the centuries to possess the five of them. My own ancestor, Jacques de Molay, the last Grand Master of the Knights Templar, had been the last monster hunter to hold all five – and he had been burned at the stake as a heretic by those who wanted the Stones to themselves.
“Where’s the other?” the witch said.
“You have it,” I replied.
“No, you said you would return here with two stones.” A shadow moved from the black hole next to the chimney, somehow darker than what was around her. The witch’s voice rose higher, laced with bitter anger. “One from the Lord of the Demons and the other from the Lord of the Vampires. You promised to bring two.”
“I didn’t have –”
“YOU PROMISED!” she shouted, the inside of the cottage whipping up in a whirlwind all around me. Debris flew through the air. Dust shook from the collapsed part of the roof, and the walls creaked as if bending to the will of a great storm. The wind kicked up flames from the embers in the fireplace. The log roared to life, casting light on the witch now standing in front of me.
Gone was the young, beautiful woman who had faced me only two weeks earlier. Her hair, which had been so long that it dragged on the floor, was gone. Cuts and scabs crossed her scalp as if a knife had roughly scraped off her hair. Her face looked pinched, lips pressed together tight, cheeks caved in as if she was in pain. Eyes that had burned into me before now stared at me dully, lifeless and covered with phlegm.
“What happened to you?” I asked, the words out of my mouth before I could stop them.
