The Light Tamer by Devyn Dawson ~ Blog Tour

The Light TamerThe Light Tamer by Devyn Dawson

My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Source: Received to Review for this blog tour
Genre: Paranormal YA

Book DescriptionJessie's moved from New York to North Carolina one week after school lets out for summer break. Being a teen in a retirement area, is one more thing to add to her 'this sucks' list. It's bad enough to have to move, but even worse her alcoholic father left them as he went on a quest to be an artist in Greece.

Things begin to look up when she is reintroduced to Caleb, the dorky boy that saved her life one summer at the beach. Caleb is no longer scrawny and nerdy, he is now tall, dark and handsome. Caleb is a Light Tamer. Now, Jessie and Caleb must learn how to control the light...before they lose each other forever.

Jessie and Amber become fast friends. Amber is a no frills girl, her snarky comments and sassy attitude will raise a few eyebrows and have you laughing out loud. Amber is rough around the edges, a light tamer with only two years left to find the one she is bound to. Her father's surfing accident left her dad paralyzed and her brother dead.

This paranormal romance will keep you on the edge of your seat with humor, romance, and determination. Fall head over heels for Caleb and Jessie.

My thoughts: Jessie is an interesting young woman. At the beginning of the book, she is so negative. Everything "sucks". I can understand that she has some issues. She has an alcoholic father, her parents are splitting, and her mom is busy dealing with school that she doesn't have much time for Jessie. They move to North Carolina, Jessie has to start over and isn't thrilled about the prospect.

After moving in with her grandmother, or Miss Gayle. (Her grandmother is way to hip to be called Grandma.) Jessie is immediately introduced to Caleb. Literally from the moment they touch, the sparks start to fly. This is complete and total attraction from the get go.

Jessie find out that she is a Light Tamer, Caleb is one as well, that gives a quick explanation to their instant connection. She is on the light side, there are people on the dark side, they don't get along and the dark side tries to steal the light sides light.

The book felt rushed to me. Many of the explanations were glossed over and didn't answer a whole lot of questions.

This is an interesting premise, I just wish that there could have been a little more time taken to explain and have a relationship develop at a slower pace.

There's some swearing and heavy duty kissing.  Would only recommend to readers 16 or older.
