The Neverland Inn by K.C. Grant (Blog tour with a #giveaway)

The Neverland Inn by K.C. GrantThe Neverland Inn by K.C. Grant
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Source: Received to Review
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book Description Daniel Cavanaugh has it all—a lucrative career as a lawyer, a gorgeous fiancĂ©e, and his future mapped out for him. So why is he feeling increasingly dissatisfied with his life? When the assignment to handle his late grandmother’s estate takes him to the California coast, Daniel welcomes the escape. Staying at the nearby bed-and-breakfast isn’t really his style, but he soon realizes the inn may hold the key to the answers he’s been seeking. Spindrift Cove has few opportunities for a young unmarried woman like Sarah Michaels. Even so, she enjoys her solitude as owner and chef at the Neverland Inn. She thrives on catering to the needs of her guests and treating them to her fantastic cooking. But when Daniel walks through her door, he immediately tests her patience. Though he is handsome and well-bred, she finds him insufferable. Soon, however, the tranquility of the inn works its magic, and Daniel and Sarah forge a sweet and unexpected connection—until the life he left behind in the city demands his return and it seems that a happily ever after may not be on the menu after all.

My thoughts: I would love to get away to "The Neverland Inn". A nice B&B in a small town with hills to hike, someone to cook for me, and some down time. It sounds like a little piece of "heaven on earth."

Daniel Cavanaugh discovers the Inn by accident. He decided not to head straight home after taking care of some legalities for his grandmother's estate. He is frustrated with his life and wants a little more time before heading back to San Francisco and his father law firm. His life has been planned out for him by others. He faces a lot of expectations and isn't sure what he wants to do with them.

Sarah Michaels is a great hostess. She is kind, and really wants to give her guests a pleasant stay at her Inn. She can't figure out Daniel though. He isn't the typical guest. Little by little she is able to break through his walls to see the man that he really is.

This is a sweet contemporary romance. It has 184 pages, so it is a quick read. I liked the small town feel of the book and the friends that stop by. One of my favorite characters is the dog, Muttley. He creates some seriously humorous situations.

This book has a great feeling to it and I enjoyed it. It is clean with a little bit of kissing.

Fall into Books Reading Challenge begins today! #readinggoals

The Fall into Books Reading Challenge has officially began.  This is a month long event full of challenges, prizes, and fun.

Today's challenge is about your reading goals.  That is a hard one for me.  I am always reading!   But I am not always reading for fun.  I have a lot of books that I review, some I have had for awhile and not had a chance to read and review them.  I also subscribe to Kindle Unlimited because some of my favorite author's have books on there, and I want to support them.

Goal #1 - Read two books that I am behind on reviewing.
Goal #2 - Read two books I have "borrowed" on Kindle Unlimited
Goal #3 - Read two books for fun!

That may not seem like a lot of books for the challenge.  But it is 6 books beyond my review books.  It may be tricky to fit them in. :)

If you have not joined the challenge:  SIGN UP HERE

There is also a few giveaways happening right now.  You can find all of the challenges listed with links to the giveaways HERE!

The Atonement of Jesus Christ is for Me by Sierra Wilson (blog tour with a giveaway)

The Atonement of Jesus Christ Is for Me by Sierra Wilson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Source:  Received to Review
Genre: Christian Children Picture Book

Book Description:  Christ's Atonement is stronger than storms on the sea--and it's Jesus's gift to you and to me. This reverent, rhyming picture book teaches that the Atonement can help us overcome any challenge we face, whether we've made a bad choice or feel lonely or scared. Help your children learn that when we turn to Jesus Christ, we can do hard things and become our best selves.

My thoughts: The Atonement of Jesus Christ can be a hard topic to explain to children. This picture book illustrates the life of the Savior, His death, and the blessings we receive because of His sacrifice.

The book is written in rhyme and has adorable illustrations that make this topic easy to understand. It is a wonderful resource. This would be a great book to take to church as a quiet book.

A Defense of Honor by Kristi Ann Hunter

A Defense of Honor by Kristi Ann HunterA Defense of Honor by Kristi Ann Hunter
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Source: Received to Review
Genre: Christian Regency Romance

Book Description When Katherine "Kit" FitzGilbert turned her back on London society more than a decade ago, she determined never to set foot in a ballroom again. But when business takes her to London and she's forced to run for her life, she stumbles upon not only a glamorous ballroom but also Graham, Lord Wharton. What should have been a chance encounter becomes much more as Graham embarks on a search for his friend's missing sister and is convinced Kit knows more about the girl than she's telling.

After meeting Graham, Kit finds herself wishing things could have been different for the first time in her life, but what she wants can't matter. Long ago, she dedicated herself to helping women escape the same scorn that drove her from London and to raising the innocent children caught in the crossfire. But as much as she desperately wishes to tell Graham everything, the risk of revealing the truth may come at too high a price for those she loves.

My thoughts:  Kristi Ann Hunter tackles a difficult topic in "A Defense of Honor". The lines of honor are blurred, do two wrongs make a right? I had to applaud the heroine's efforts in this book. Three women work to provide protection, education, and a home for the illegitimate children of nobility. They make it possible for the mother's to reenter society without their reputation being destroyed. Their efforts are honorable and noble, but the methods employed are a bit sketchy.

I liked Kit as a character, but it her love interest Graham who stole the book. He is honorable, noble, and sees people for who they are and not their lineage. He brings joy and happiness to everyone around him. His faith is strengthened in this book and he is the one who ultimately brings Kit more in line to God and His will.

This book is full of wonderful characters. I adored the children. Graham is a master at getting them to talk and reveal tidbits of information that the other adults wouldn't want disclosed. It is pretty funny how he does it. He listens, he plays, and he gives them love and attention.

This book deals with serious circumstances and consequences but I was not overburdened with the seriousness of the topic. Kristi Ann Hunter is able to write about joy and happiness in difficult times. This book is definitely worth the time to pick up and read. I am looking forward to the books to come.  There is a free novella prequel to this series that I would recommend reading before this one.  I will include the link at the bottom of the post.

It is a clean read. There is some kissing and talking about past indiscretions, but nothing described in detail. This book is Christian fiction.

The Shipbuilder's Wife by Jennifer Moore (Blog tour with a giveaway!)

The Shipbuilder's Wife by Jennifer Moore
The Shipbuilder's WifeMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
Source: Received to review
Genre: Historical Romance

Book Description The day of her parents' garden party dawns bright as Lydia Prescott eagerly anticipates a marriage proposal from a handsome and wealthy plantation owner. The lovely debutante plans to steal a moment away with her beau, but her plans go terribly awry. Instead of her intended, she is joined by a stranger the largest man she's ever laid eyes on. And it is clear Jacob Steele is there for reasons far more sober than the party. With British raids erupting all around them, it is his job to reassure plantation owners of their safety. In reality, however, Jacob is an espionage agent, and the truth is dire: America is on the verge of invasion by the British.
Blissfully unaware of the danger surrounding her, Lydia basks in the glow of her recent engagement. But her joy is short-lived—a surprise British attack results in a devastating wound, and her plans for the future are shattered. Lost in her devastation, Lydia could never dream that Jacob, that giant of a man she met so briefly, would prove to be her saving grace. And with a war raging around them, she may be called upon to save him too.

My thoughts: Jennifer Moore knows how to write a story! Her books take me back in time where I can imagine that I am there with the characters and picture the setting in my mind.

Lydia Prescott is a woman who had all that she wanted. She was beautiful, wealthy, and about to become engaged to the man of her dreams...until the British attacked her families plantation. Then she was unsure of her future and the happiness she had anticipated.

This is a story about when life doesn't turn out like you had planned, that maybe, something better is in your future. Lydia at first seemed shallow, but blossomed into a better person as the book progressed. Her life with Jacob is full of uncertainty. Both of them are afraid of being hurt and do not trust each other. If nothing else, this book emphasizes the importance of communication in a marriage.

The romance is slow. The book contains mystery. Someone is a spy for the British. Lives are at stake and there is a lot of critical war information that needs to be concealed. This book has so much to offer. It is a great book to sit down with and get lost into.

The Captivating Lady Charlotte by Carolyn Miller

The Captivating Lady Charlotte by Carolyn MillerThe Captivating Lady Charlotte by Carolyn Miller
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Source: I purchased this one.
Genre: Christian Regency Romance

Book Description:  Her heart is her own--but her hand in marriage is another matter

Lady Charlotte Featherington is destined for great things on the marriage market. After all, as the beautiful daughter of a marquess, she should have her pick of the eligible nobility hen she debuts. She, however, has love at the top of her list of marriageable attributes. And her romantic heart falls hard for one particularly dashing, attentive suitor. Sadly for Charlotte, her noble father intends her betrothed to be someone far more dull.

William Hartwell may be a duke, but he knows he was Charlotte's father's pick, not the young lady's own choice. And the captivating Lady Charlotte does not strike him as a woman who will be wooed by his wealth or title. While she has captured his heart, he has no idea how to win hers in return--and the betrayal and scandal his first wife put him through makes it difficult for him to believe that love can ever be trusted. His only hope is that Charlotte's sense of responsibility will win out over her romantic notions.

Can a widowed duke and a romantically inclined lady negotiate a future and discover love beyond duty? Will they be able to find healing and hope from the legacy of grace? Poignant and charming, this is another beautifully written, clean and wholesome Regency romance from Carolyn Miller.

My thoughts: Lady Charlotte is a gently bred woman in the Regency Period. She has grown up with expectations on what her life should be. As she has her presentation to the Queen and is accepted for her Season, her hopes for love in a marriage are dashed when she realizes that her parents will not approve of the men who are turning her head.

Charlotte grows up a lot in this book. She starts as a silly girl and becomes a woman of grace and compassion. She grew on me as the book progressed. She has to learn what love really looks like, what she wants in her life, and how to serve others.

The Duke is a complex man. He lived a lie with his late wife and is still hurting from deceit. For some reason he is drawn to Charlotte from the moment he met her, but he is not wanting to put his heart in the hand of another and be hurt again.

This book was a interesting. Carolyn Miller's tale takes us into ballrooms, drawing rooms, London, and the countryside. The book's romance is not sudden, but it is built upon and nurtured. There is also a mystery on the side that adds intrigue.

This book contains some kissing and a little violence. It is also a Christian Regency Romance
