My Thoughts: The profession of a dime novelist is highly competitive.  Essie has to "up her game" to be published.  When train robbers stop the train she is on, she sees it as a golden opportunity.  Besides, one of the robbers is Texas Titan, and he is known for treating women and children well.

Essie is brilliant at remembering things.  She uses situations from books to get her out of tricky situations.  She thinks quickly.  She adapts well and has a positive personality.

Texas Titan is undercover.  He isn't really Tex, but his twin brother.  Essie's interference is messing up his opportunity to bring the bad guys to justice.  There is also the problem that he finds her intelligent and attractive.  Not a good combination when trying to keep your wits about you.

The characters are fun to read.  They chemistry and a bad situation to fall in love.  There were several instances that brought a smile to my face and I wanted how to know they were going to get out of the mess they were in.  This is a fun book that is set in the "Old West".  There are outlaws, lawmen, and a feisty heroine.

Snippet From A Savage Ghost:

Above it hung a really old-looking painting. From the clothing on the man and two children, I guessed it must have been in the early 1800s. Were they ancestors, to have such a prominent place in the room? I stepped closer, drawn to the little girl in the picture. Her curls refused to be tamed, and the painter had captured a mischievous gleam in her eyes that made me wonder what she saw off screen. Her expression reminded me of Mellie.
I shifted my attention to the rest of the people, settling on the man dressed in a familiar red British uniform but wearing a cape made of the blue in the British flag. Was he the little girl’s father?
Out of nowhere, with powerful feelings like in a dream, came an image of him wandering the halls of this castle. Sad and alone, he called for someone, but no one came.
“Did you lose them and then have to live in this house all by yourself?” I whispered, caught up in a sense of loss so strong it brought sudden tears. “So much emptiness. Did it echo around you, trying to swallow you up?”
My hair swirled around with a breezy, soft yeeesssss, and the hair on my arms stood up. Shocked, I held my breath and searched the room. For a second I thought I could see the man in the portrait standing by a bookcase. I blinked and he was gone.
I took a deep breath, resisting the urge to run screaming from the room. I must not give rein to the overactive imagination of my childhood. With my back held rigid, I forced my feet to walk at a normal pace to the door, just like I used to do as a little kid after staying up too late to watch a scary movie.
Pausing in the doorway, I glanced back. Had I really seen a .... No.

My thoughts; For me, this book would be one of my greatest nightmares. Imagine being hurt and pushed down a mining shaft, left there to die. That is what happens to Jenny Brodie. She tried to do a good deed and instead witnessed a murder.

Even though the premise of the book is the stuff of nightmares, it was very interesting. Jenny remembers the events that lead up to the mine shaft. The memories have significance to the events that are going on with situation. I loved Clara, the mute girl who had a lot of love and compassion, even though she didn't receive a lot of either.

The reader also gets to peek in on the rescue efforts. The friends, boyfriend, and family of Jenny are desperately searching for her. It illustrates how prayer and dreams can lead to inspiration. There are many great messages in the book. To me, two of the big ones were faith and prayer.

This book has violence and a little girl who suffers from neglect. I would consider it a clean read.

Tristan glanced at her, his expression unreadable, before returning his attention to Martindale. He lowered his voice. “Let us go inside and discuss this in private.”

“There’s nothing to discuss. You’ve compromised my sister. Choose your weapon.”
