Forever Yours Event ~ Featuring Author Lorin Grace (Enter the Giveaway)

   .

Mending Hearts with the Billionaire by Lorin Grace

Candace’s ten-year plan has two flaws, year eleven and Colin. Everyone who meets Candace wearing one of her colorful wigs knows she is a cancer survivor. Determined to live life to the fullest, her accomplishments range from painting murals to convincing students on campus to give up drinking. Few people know the secret to her success includes a detailed ten-year plan and a bucket list full of check marks. Candace never dreamed she’d make it to year eleven. Computer expert Colin Ogilvie can navigate the most difficult codes. While his friends were chasing girls, he was hacking past firewalls and developing billion-dollar apps. He never felt he was missing out until he met Candace. After five hundred and twelve days in the friend zone, he wonders if he can ever crack the code to the wall protecting her heart. What science can’t solve, art can. Their relationship changes when a meddling friend commissions Candace to help restore an antique merry-go-round. As Candace brings new life to the old merry-go-round, she discovers her own life can have a different path than she planned. But is she brave enough to not only reveal her biggest secrets to Colin but brave a chance on her own happily ever after?

Gathering his courage, he moved to the leather seat facing her. “Penny for your thoughts.” She raised one of her painted brows. “Do you even have a penny?” “I can transfer it via two or three different apps.” “But I don’t need a penny.” “What do you need?” “Chocolate?” “I can do chocolate.” He pulled up a shopping app. “It will be waiting at the Blue Pines Inn’s front desk.” “Caramels and cherries?” “Of course. And they are hand dipped in Blue Pines.” The first hint of a real smile flashed across her face. “So how many of your thoughts does that get?” Candace patted the seat next to her. “Probably not as much as it should. I was thinking about what Dr. Christensen told me about turning a corner. I just don’t know where to go.”

Book Blog Tour for "Blessed: The Beatitudes and the Chistlike Life by Loyd D Newel and Mary Jane Woodger (Enter the Giveaway!)

Blessed by Lloyd D. NewellBlessed: The Beatitudes and the Christlike Life by Lloyd D. Newell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Source: Received to Review
Genre: Religion

Book Description As Jesus Christ prepared His faithful followers to teach the doctrine of the gospel, He presented perhaps His best-known discourse: the Sermon on the Mount. This profound address is directed to all those who seek to be His disciples, with powerful instruction as to the personal conduct necessary for living a Christ-centered life. And at the heart of this sermon are the Beatitudes, guidelines of the character traits and holy attributes that can serve as a guide for developing disciples. But how can these attributes be interpreted and attained in today's modern world? In Blessed: The Beatitudes and the Christlike Life, best-selling authors Lloyd D. Newell and Mary Jane Woodger delve into each characteristic the Savior spoke of, providing powerful, real-life examples, scriptures, and prophetic insights detailing ways in which modern-day disciples of Christ can cultivate these eternal attributes. Those seeking the path of discipleship will find in this volume a thoughtful and inspiring guide to internalizing the timeless truths of the Beatitudes in our day.

My thoughts: This book is packed with Doctrine. I thought I understood the basics of the Beatitudes, but realize there are so many layers to them that I never thought about. If you are looking for an in-depth discussion of the teachings of Christ, this would be ideal to pick up.

I am studying the New Testament this year. This was the perfect book to help me in my studies. I honestly don't think I got all that I needed to from this book because I was reading it with time constraints for review. This is a book that I will go back to so I can delve deeper.

Each chapter takes a verse and studies it.  The author's use sources from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as well as other scriptorians.  I was amazed at the information one small verse contains.

Mind Games by Nancy Mehl

Mind Games by Nancy MehlMind Games by Nancy Mehl
My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars
Source: Received to Review
Genre: Christian Suspense

Book Description:  Kaely Quinn's talents as an FBI behavior analyst are impossible to ignore, no matter how unorthodox her methods. But when a reporter outs her as the daughter of an infamous serial killer, she's demoted to field agent and transferred to St. Louis.

When the same reporter who ruined her career claims to have received an anonymous poem predicting a string of murders, ending with Kaely's, the reporter's ulterior motives bring his claim into question. But when a body is found that fits the poem's predictions, the threat is undeniable, and the FBI sends Special Agent Noah Hunter to St. Louis.

Initially resentful of the assignment, Noah is surprised at how quickly his respect for Kaely grows, despite her oddities. But with a brazen serial killer who breaks all the normal patterns on the loose, Noah and Kaely are tested to their limits to catch the murderer before anyone else--including Kaely herself--is killed.

My thoughts: I just found a new "must read series!" Unfortunately, this is book 1 and the next isn't scheduled to come out until later this year. (sigh)

I loved the quirky FBI Behavioral Analyst Kaely Quinn. She is interesting and very good at what she does. Once you get to know more about her, her odd behavior just becomes endearing. She has been called out by a new serial killer. It is personal. He is after her. He writes a poem with clues that let her know she is the last on his list to die.

Nancy Mehl did a wonderful job at leading me to believe it was one person and then hinting that it was another. It was hard to guess who the "bad guy" really was. This book was a page turner and I really am looking forward to the next installment. I am hoping that some walls can be broken and that there may be a hint at romance in the future.

This book contains non-graphic violence and Christian themes. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

Laurie Winter is featured on Forever Yours (Enter the #Giveaway today!)

Winner Takes All by Laurie Winter Storm Thompson wants to be anywhere but Liberty Ridge. Especially since his hometown also contains his childhood nemesis, Colleen Gardner. With a young daughter and mentally ill mother to care for, he struggles to simply make ends meet. Every day, his goal of owning an organic farm slips further out of reach. Psychiatrist Colleen Gardner has her sights set on starting a retreat to help veterans suffering from PTSD. She's done well but her small town fundraisers just aren't enough. "The Great American Scavenger Hunt" TV show offers a million-dollar prize, and Colleen and Storm are selected as competitors. Both resolve to do whatever is needed to win, even using the other to get ahead. Storm and Colleen compete to fund their dreams, but their already tattered relationship becomes more strained. Only one will win the money. But will love prove the ultimate prize?
The Great American Scavenger Hunt
Day 1
Storm stood on the stairs of the US Capitol Building, and the weight of his travel pack dug into his shoulders. Before sunrise, all the contestants were bussed seven miles over from their hotel in Arlington. A few other contestants started conversations, and his minimal replies made clear he wasn’t here to make friends. Colleen ignored him, which was good. Her mere presence provided enough distraction.
He had a good view of her down at the other end of the line. How could she stand upright underneath the weight of her pack? The thing looked as heavy as her. He’d bought his at the secondhand shop in Liberty Ridge. Colleen probably shopped at a high-end outdoor store that carried the latest gizmos and gadgets. Her pack and its contents might cost the equivalent of a small country’s GDP.
When he’d seen her yesterday at lunch, he almost didn’t recognize her. Her short hair looked amazingly sexy. This morning, she wore a tousled look, like she’d just rolled out of bed, which she likely had being that the clock just struck seven-thirty am.
The host of the show, Burt Blackstone, walked before the assembled group. He stood medium height, with a trim build, and a head of closely cropped, salt-and-pepper hair. Today, Burt wore khaki shorts and an orange button-up top. “I want to wish every one of you good luck. We’ll start filming shortly. I’ll go over the rules once more, mostly for the audience’s sake. Then, I’ll give the signal, and you’ll be off.”
A low murmur drifted over the group.
Storm shifted the weight of his travel pack and mentally walked through his plan. He held a red envelope, which was identical to the ones given to the other contestants. Let’s rock and roll.
"The journey they take physically and emotionally is one that sucked me and wouldn't let go until the book was done. Thank you for writing such a wonderful book!" Goodreads review       Author Laurie Winter Laurie Winter is a true warrior of the heart. Inspired by her dreams, she creates authentic characters who overcome the odds and find true love. Gordy and his friends continue to work on their potions, but when Gordy chooses Max as his lab partner, Adilene starts to wonder if she still has a place with her old friends. She turns to a new friend, Cadence, who might know a way to help Adilene become a potion master on her own.

And in Greenland, Mezzarix has a chance to escape his Forbidden Zone—as long as he agrees to work with the mysterious Ms. Bimini and replicate an unusual solution known as “Silt.” It could be just the weapon Mezzarix needs to destroy B.R.E.W. forever.
