An Unfamiliar Duke by Sian Ann Bessey #HistoricalRomance # Giveaway #BookTour

An Unfamiliar Duke (Georgian Gentleman, #4) (Georgian Gentlemen)An Unfamiliar Duke (Georgian Gentleman, #4) by Sian Ann Bessey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Source:  I received a review copy and I purchased a copy. :)
Genre: Historical Romance

Book Description: At eleven years of age, Rosalind Ainsworth was convinced that Sebastian Lumley, the future Duke of Kelbrook, was the most odious young man she’d ever met. And ten years later, after having had no contact with the nobleman in the intervening time, her opinion of him has not changed. Unfortunately, neither has the marriage contract their fathers signed soon after her birth.

As Rosalind’s twenty-first birthday and the appointed wedding day approaches, Sebastian makes a rare appearance in London. His first meeting with Rosalind since childhood goes less than perfectly, but Sebastian has a compelling reason for honoring their marriage contract—a reason outlined in a document kept behind his workshop’s locked door.

After a quick wedding, the new couple relocates to Finley Park, where their acquaintanceship slowly blossoms into affection. But when Sebastian’s secretive work threatens their fledgling relationship and Rosalind’s life is placed in jeopardy, Sebastian finds himself forced to choose between the man he has pledged to help and the woman he has come to love.

My thoughts: It's a good thing that first impressions do not need to be the last impressions. Sebastian did not do himself any favors when he refused to let Rosalind enter his treehouse because she was a girl. This thoughtless, childhood act is one reason that Rosalind hopes that he will not come and honor the marriage contract their fathers put in place.

The first part of the book could be considered a series of blunders. The mistakes that they made had me enjoying their interactions. One characteristic that they share is the love of math. Rosalind is a numbers girl. She has a very sharp mind. Sebastian also uses math and science to create. Their love of the invention of the hot air balloon becomes a bonding thing for them.

I love the gentle pace of their romance. Little things draw them together. One of my favorites is that Sebastian is not above eating in the kitchen. He treats the cooks and his other servants with respect. He then shared the love with Rosalind. There are so many little things that highlight their character. I couldn't help but love to read about them.

There is a bit of suspense at the end of the book that will keep you reading frantically. This book is all that I love in a story. I couldn't give it a higher recommendation.

I received a complimentary copy. I also pre-ordered a copy for my kindle. I knew that I loved Sian Ann Bessey's books and that I would want my own copy.

Red Cicada by Gregg Luke #blogtour #suspense # giveaway

Red CicadaRed Cicada by Gregg Luke
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Source: Received to Review
Genre: Suspense

Book Description:  Twenty-eight-year-old Lana Baker knows the signs: the intense flashes of light and building pressure in her head herald yet another migraine. But this time, the unavoidable pain lands her in the hospital, where her unusual past raises more questions than answers. Her medical history is a complete mystery. Stranger still, her battery of tests reveals a shocking secret: Lana has a metal disk embedded in her skull—but she has no idea how it got there. Even more disturbing is the fact that the disk is etched with words—in Russian.

Lieutenant Lance Kipling has been tracking down information on a former marine he believes may have had ties to Cold War biological weapons. So when that man’s daughter turns up in a hospital with a metal disk in her skull, it does not go unnoticed. But Lance has competition for the information stored in Lana’s head—dangerous individuals with Soviet ties.

Together, Lance and Lana follow a trail of clues her father left, bits of information that reveal Lana’s past and paint a deadly picture of a weapon that has the potential to wreak havoc on the planet’s entire population.

My thoughts:  A note of caution, once you start this book you will not want to put it down. Be prepared to become irritable with interruptions and decide that sleep is overrated.

Gregg Luke amazes me with every one of his novels. They are books that you do not want to put down and are full of facts that make the story believable. (I really hope that none of the scenarios come true, ever.) Red Cicada fits in with all of his other books. Intense suspense, a few people are trying to save the world from evil, bad guys trying to kill the good guys, and a plot that holds your attention until you read the last word.

Lana suffers from migraines. A trip to the ER reveals that her life has hidden secrets. A metal disk is found inserted into her skull with Russian letters that translate into "Red Cicada". The google search quickly brings Lieutenant Kipling to the scene. He has been researching a cold case from the end of the USSR era. Lana may have the clues needed to crack the case. Unfortunately, the bad guys are also alerted and not far behind.

This book will keep you on the edge of your seat. I love the partnership of Lana and Lieutenant Kipling. They make a great team with the chemistry between them. Just when you think you know what is going on there's a plot twist that keeps you guessing until the end.

Danger Unknown by Kathi Oram Peterson #BookReview #Suspense

Danger UnknownDanger Unknown by Kathi Oram Peterson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Source: Received to Review
Genre: Suspense

Book Description:  The small desert town seemed like the perfect place to disappear—until Brooke Steward’s worst nightmare walks into the diner where she works. The man who murdered her husband has found her—again. Desperate to protect her young daughter, Brooke has no choice but to run for their lives.
Awakened by a haunting nightmare that has plagued him for years, Michael Calder is startled by a knock at the door of his remote Montana ranch. He is even more shocked when he finds a disheveled child on his steps, who silently leads him to her injured mother. In making the split-second decision to bring Brooke and her daughter into his home, Michael is unwittingly drawn with them into the path of danger. Someone is determined to silence Brooke, no matter the cost. In their quest for the truth, Brooke and Michael come to trust each other completely, their relationship deepening into something more. But even as the lines between friendship and love blur, the explosive secrets of the past are finally revealed. Now they must fight to survive or risk becoming the latest casualties in a deadly conspiracy.

My thoughts:  Bring on the suspense! This book has many plot twists and moments that leave you on the edge of your seat wondering what would happen next?

Brook is a young mother who has taken her daughter and is on the run. Her husband was murdered and her daughter, Izzy, was a witness. There is a target on their backs.

Michael trains horses to help others with horse therapy. I loved learning about it, I know that there is a bond between a horse and its person, but I hadn't considered how they can help a wounded soul. His patience, mainly due to his PTSD, with Izzy as he helps her to compartmentalize her trauma was fantastic. Izzy and Brook couldn't have had an accident anywhere else other than this hero's property.

There are some other characters who play an important role in this story, some for the good and others for the bad. Each of them complements the main characters as they struggle to bring justice to the murderer and the man behind him.

I struggled to get through the middle part of the story, but it was well worth finishing. The conclusion is one that I wouldn't want to miss.
