Book Description: Music meets Movies in this sweet college romance from the bestselling author of Cinder & Ella.
NYU freshman Nate Anderson is a triplet who is desperate to escape his wild and crazy brothers. After they screw things up for him one too many times, Nate flees his housing situation and takes the first available room for rent as far from his brothers as he can get.
Enter his new roommate Jordan--a quirky LA girl who believes that everything in life has already been done in the movies. In this heartfelt tale of love, friendship and family, Nate learns how to deal with his new adult life using Hollywood films as a guide.
My thoughts: This book is part of the "Power of the Matchmaker" series. Several authors take one central character, Pearl, and create a romance. Pearl is a Chinese matchmaker from another time era. To fully understand her part in the books and her calling as a matchmaker, you should read the introductory novella,
Power of the Matchmaker. The books are stand alone and do not be read in any specific order to be understood or appreciated.
One thing that I really like about this series is that each author writes their own interpretation of Pearl. In this book she is portrayed differently. The voice and tone of the book are clearly Kelly Oram. I like her writing style, so it was fun for me to see and feel the difference.
In this story, Nate desperately needs a break from his brother's. They happen to be triplets and the threesome is two too many for Nate. His brothers have a different idea of how he should be living his life. In a chance meeting (or destiny)with Pearl his life changes. He finds freedom with an unexpected roommate, Jordan.
Nate and Jordan are artistic personalities and majors. They have many things in common, even thought she is majoring in film and he is a music major. They understand each other from the moment they meet. For Nate's girlfriend, this is not a positive thing. The characters are quirky and I couldn't help but like them, even the obnoxious brothers are lovable.
This is a cute and entertaining book to read. There are references to intimacy, partying, and underage drinking.

TEASER:
I handed Jordan the electric guitar that I’ve had since I was twelve, and laughed when her eyes got really big. “You play the electric guitar, too?”
“Music major,” I teased, picking up my keyboard. “I play this, too. A little. And the bass guitar.”
“Awesome.” She examined the electric guitar with awe.
“Why do you seem so surprised?”
She looked at me as if the answer to that question should be obvious. “Hello. Have you met yourself? You with an acoustic guitar singing soft songs around a campfire or in a coffee house makes perfect sense. But I can’t picture you up on a stage, jamming on your electric guitar like a rock star.” She studied me a moment, then shook her head. “You’ll have to play for me, or I’m not going to believe it.”
