Book Review ~ "The Princess Spy" by Melanie Dickerson

The Princess Spy by Melanie Dickerson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Source: I purchased this one
Genre; YA Fairy Tale Fiction

Book Description:  A new suitor. A shocking discovery.

Margaretha has always been a romantic, and hopes her newest suitor, Lord Claybrook, is destined to be her one true love. But then an injured man is brought to the castle, claiming to be an English lord who was left for dead by Claybrook's men. She convinces herself "Lord Colin" is just an addled stranger, until Colin retrieves an heirloom she lost in a well and asks her to spy on Claybrook as repayment. Margaretha knows she could never be a spy---not only does she tend to talk too much, she's sure Colin is completely wrong about her potential betrothed. But she soon discovers her romantic notions may have been clouding her judgment about not only Colin but Claybrook as well. She soon finds herself running for her life--and it may be up to her to save her father and her family from one man's wicked plot.

My thoughts: Magaretha is the daughter of a German Duke. She knows that she has a responsibility to marry well, and not necessarily for love. She longs for a love like she sees between her older brother and his wife. So far none of her suitors have lived up to her expectation. She is considering Lord Claybrook's suit, even though he dresses like a peacock and there is not chemistry between them.

She quickly begins to understand that all is not well with her relationship with Lord Claybrook when a man is found half dead and brought to the healer. Her trusting world changes as she learns of a plot that could destroy her family.

I was easily caught up in Margaretha and Colin's story. They are two trustworthy people who are caught up in a situation that is thrust upon them by an unscrupulous man. They rise to every situation presented to them and use their faith to get them through.

The romance is sweet and doesn't feel rushed. Even though technically they know each other for a short time. It grows as they spend time together and know of each other's character. I found myself rooting for them and that they would have a happy ending.

This is a fifth book in a series, but it is a stand alone. I am not sure if there is cross over of characters, but I hope to find out as eventually I read the first four!
